Investigations and audits from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are on the rise and the numbers are expected to grow substantially over the next year. With significant increases in fines for I-9 violations (both paperwork and the hiring of undocumented workers), all employers, regardless of size or industry, need to be more diligent regarding their I-9 compliance practices. This includes employers who do not have foreign national employees. In addition, the State of California has its own laws and investigations that are catching employers off-guard.
